Five people have been taken to Southland Hospital after a crash on Bluff Highway, near Invercargill, this afternoon.
Southern District Command Centre Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen said the crash happened at 2pm when a Honda Accord and SUV collided.
Three women and two children were taken to hospital by ambulance, with a woman in the SUV believed to have broken her collarbone, he said.
A St John spokesman said three ambulances were sent to the crash site.
The three women - one aged in her teens, one in her 20s and one in her 40s - suffered moderate injuries, while two children had minor injuries, he said.
The road was closed after the crash but had reopened by 3.50pm.
