Father to resume in Scott Guy murder trial

Bryan Guy, father of murdered Feilding farmer Scott Guy, will resume his evidence today at the trial of his son-in-law, Ewen Macdonald.

Mr Guy is one of a number of prosecution witnesses called this week with the focus on the events of July 8, 2010, the day his son died. His daughter Nicola Guy is expected to take the stand after her father.

Along with his wife Joanne, Nicola and other daughter Anna Macdonald - the wife of the accused - Bryan Guy is scheduled to give evidence on aspects of the Crown case more than once during the six-week trial, which is being heard before Justice Simon France.

Also due to take the stand is widow Kylee Guy, who was seven months pregnant when her husband was gunned down in the driveway of their rural Feilding property in the early morning dark as he set off to milk cows.

The couple's elder son, Hunter, is now four, and his little brother Drover will be two later this year.

Led by Crown prosecutor Ben Vanderkolk, the prosecution will call more than 100 witnesses.

Macdonald, 32, has denied the murder charge. He has sat in the dock with his head bowed during most of his time in court.

Defence lawyer Greg King says someone other than Macdonald killed Scott Guy.

His client was arrested nine months after the killing, on April 7, 2011, and has been in custody since.

A jury of seven men and five women was reduced to 11 members on the second day of the trial when a female juror became unavailable and was discharged.
