The sentence of home detention given to a father and daughter for their part in the abduction of the woman's young son two years ago has been criticised as light by the boy's father.
Kay Skelton, 38, and Dick Headley, 70, were today sentenced at the High Court in Hamilton to home detention.
Skelton was ordered to complete nine month's home detention and 300 hours community work, while Headley will serve 12 months home detention.
The pair had earlier admitted a charge of abducting the son of Skelton and Hamilton man Chris Jones.
In late 2006 and early 2007, Hedley and Skelton flouted Family Court rulings and took the boy into hiding in Northland bush for five months.
Outside the court today Chris Jones said he believed the pair got off lighly.
"I believe that they came out relatively unscathed from their actions and behaviour," he told 3 News.
But counsel for Skelton, Barry Hart, said the sentence wasn't light.
"My client did three months in jail and that's no soft option."
A woman who admitted taking the boy from the Hamilton Public Library, Nikala Janice Taylor, was also sentenced to 400 hours community work and 12 months supervision.
