A 13-year-old was killed when a stolen car lost control and crashed into the side of a house in South Auckland this morning.
Four others who had been in the vehicle fled, police said.
It was believed that the boy who died had been driving the Subaru station wagon car when it ploughed through several fences in Winsford Street and Fairlight Place, Manurewa, before hitting a house just after 7am, police said.
The car left a 100m-long trail of damage and speed was a factor in the crash.
Police were speaking to people thought to have been in the car.
The dead boy had yet to be named.
