The south Auckland man jailed for killing a teenage tagger has yet to decide on whether to appeal for bail before Christmas.
Bruce Emery, 50, was denied bail in the High Court at Auckland on Wednesday, five days after a jury found him not guilty of murder but guilty of the manslaughter of Pihema Cameron, 15.
Emery stabbed Pihema in the chest last January after he found him tagging his Manurewa property and chased him more than 300 metres down the road carrying a kitchen knife.
Trial judge, Justice Hugh Williams, on Wednesday turned down an application for Emery to be released on bail until he was sentenced on February 13.
His lawyer Chris Comeskey said Emery would be considering whether to appeal the bail decision to the Court of Appeal so he could be with his family for Christmas.
Mr Comeskey told NZPA today Emery had yet to make a decision on whether to appeal.
Emery had until Monday to file an appeal and it was unlikely a decision would be made until then.
Pihema's mother Leanne Cameron said on Wednesday she was happy Emery would spend Christmas behind bars.
