A 23-year-old Cromwell man has appeared in court after two separate attacks this month, one on a newspaper deliveryman.
Detective Sergeant Derek Shaw of Otago CIB said 64-year-old Peter Williams was assaulted as he delivered papers early on August 9 .
Police had told Mr Williams of the arrest of his alleged assailant and, through a family spokesperson, he expressed some satisfaction and relief. Mr Shaw said he appeared to be recovering from his physical injuries. A week earlier, a man received serious head injuries when he was allegedly attacked by two men at 11pm on August 2, after he went to investigate damage that was being done to his fence.
Brendon William McCormack appeared at Alexandra District Court today accused of the aggravated assault on Mr Williams.
He was bailed on strict conditions to reappear next Wednesday, when he was likely to face further charges in relation to the earlier attack, Mr Shaw said.
