An alleged bank robber who held up a bank claiming he had a bomb has today been granted bail.
Tim Whelan, 22, has been charged with the armed robbery of the ANZ bank in Woolston, in Christchurch.
Police, who today did not oppose bail, say Whelan is the smirking man caught on camera making no effort to conceal his face.
Whelan is accusing of showing a female bank teller a device that appeared to be a bomb and detonator on September 24.
Today, the unemployed Parklands man was granted bail by Judge Patrick Treston at Christchurch District Court with conditions that he stays at an Avonhead address under a night curfew and does not enter ANZ or National banks.
Lawyer Michael Starling said a plea would be entered when Whelan reappeared in court next week.
