A 47-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a 48-year-old woman found dead at a house in Auckland last night.
Police and forensic scientists were today carrying out a scene examination at 1/26 Warwick street in Western Springs where the woman's body was found, Detective Inspector Scott Beard said.
"It's clear from our preliminary evaluation of the scene that the woman has been dead for some weeks and we'd like to be able to get some clarity around when she was last seen alive and by whom," Mr Beard said.
Mr Beard asked anyone who had called at the property over the past month, either without response or greeted by someone other than the woman who lived there, to contact police.
Inquiries into the woman's background were under way and it was hoped her body could be removed from the house today.
The man accused of the woman's assault, a self-employed computer programmer from Western Springs, was to appear in Auckland District Court this morning.
