Alleged burglar who 'knocked himself out' to go to trial

A Christchurch man who allegedly knocked himself out during a bungled burglary of a Christchurch house today elected to stand trial.

Brett Peter Kerr, 28, unemployed, is accused of burgling the house in Prebbleton, southwest of Christchurch, and intentionally damaging the property.

In Christchurch District Court today, he was remanded to a pre-depositions conference session on April 2, the Christchurch News website reported.

Kerr was arrested on January 28 when a couple checked the house belonging to family members away on holiday.

They found a burglary in progress and a fire in the kitchen.

They also allegedly found Kerr who had apparently fallen and knocked his head while hauling a drum kit down a spiral staircase from the loft above the garage.

Kerr remains on bail during the remand.
