Hundreds of people watched Marc Ellis play a game of rippa rugby with school pupils and Colin Meads hand out the oranges at half-time in the Octagon today.

The event was held to promote the launch of ticket sales for the July 12 Tri-Nations test between the All Blacks and Springboks at Carisbrook.

As well as former Otago larrikin Ellis and All Black great Meads, former All Blacks Kevin Skinner, Chris Laidlaw, Laurie Mains and Josh Kronfeld were on hand to enjoy the festivities.

Meads also blew out the candles on a cake to mark his 72nd birthday.

Otago and Southland people have the next two weeks to secure preferential tickets for the test, the first at Carisbrook in three years.
