Water gushes from a burst water main in Leith St yesterday, forcing the street to be temporarily closed.
Vehicle access to Leith St was temporarily closed between its intersections with St Andrew and Hanover Sts.
A police spokeswoman said they were notified of the "burst water main" about 11.20am, and assisted with traffic management as the Dunedin City Council was informed.
The main, outside Alsco Uniforms, sent water flowing to nearly both ends of the street and travelled as far as the corner of St Andrew and Castle Sts (State Highway 1) before it was turned off.

A council spokesman said they were yet to determine what caused the main to burst, and the initial focus had been on shutting down water valves in the surrounding area to turn off water to the affected main.
"Our focus will then be on repairing the main, reinstating services to affected properties and any repairs required to the road."
