Port Chalmers’ Iona Church was awash with colour yesterday during a special service to remember merchant navy seamen who died during World War 2.

The church was decked out in company flags donated by Ian Farquhar for the ceremony. The Red Ensign, of the merchant navy, is carried by Alan Bain.

The service also featured the Dunedin Returned Services Choir and a reading by Lieutenant Elise Allen.
