Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin has had a pink hue before.
Now the colour, in the form of new LED lamps, is set to have a lasting impact within the covered stadium, by helping the grass grow.
The lights are replacing the stadium's ageing sodium in-house grow lights.
The LED lights are much more powerful than the old ones, enabling turf to be repaired quicker.
"Nothing will ever beat natural light, but this new LED technology certainly makes my job easier.
"The lights are more efficient, provide broader coverage and help us maintain a healthier playing surface all year round," he said.
The new lights had more than double the light intensity of the old ones, which had been used for more than a decade.
Mr Watson said infrared technology was part of the system and this was needed to lift the temperature in winter.
Dunedin Venues chief executive Paul Doorn said the upgrade was driven by the limitations of the previous system.
"The transition to LED grow lights addresses these challenges and ensures our turf remains in top condition, no matter how tight our event calendar may be."
It was separate to an overall lighting upgrade completed at the stadium about a year ago.
Pop singer Pink filled the stadium at her concerts in 2018 and last year.
