A wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph in the Queens Gardens will lead Armistice Day and Remembrance Day commemorations in Dunedin tomorrow.
The 10.45am ceremony will be followed by the observation of two minutes' silence at 11am, punctuated with a two-round salute fired simultaneously from the Octagon's Robbie Burns cannon and the howitzers in Queens Gardens and Unity Park in Mornington.
A replica P-51 Mustang will fly over the city and those involved in the ceremony will then move to St Paul's Cathedral in the Octagon for a noon church service.
Two minutes' silence from 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month is marked each year to recognise the time the armistice was signed in 1918, which marked the start of the end of World War 1.
Services held at 11am mark that moment and remember those who have served, are serving and have given their lives in military service.
