A Nativity stained-glass window at St Paul’s Cathedral in Dunedin is in place just in time for Christmas.

The window was unveiled during a service of thanksgiving and blessing at the church in the Octagon on Thursday evening and the Very Rev Dr Tony Curtis said it was a "gargantuan effort" to have everything ready in time.

People from the present day were depicted in the narrative, he said.

The window was commissioned and donated by parishioner Emeritus Professor John Broughton and designed by stained-glass artist Peter Mackenzie.

Prof Broughton said his family had a long association with the church, including his parents marrying there 81 years ago.
