With hushed voice, Ben Williamson (19) assured the Otago Daily Times it was the official reason he went to the Women's Lifestyle Expo at the weekend with his girlfriend Tess Hollamby (17).
He was surrounded by a sea of women, and admitted it felt far from his comfort zone.
"Apart from me, the only other blokes here are the ones stood behind counters.
"It feels a bit wrong."
The expo was geared towards women, with about 150 stands advertising everything a woman could want, from teeth whitening, waxing, facial cleansing, make-up, jewellery, clothing, and nail polishing to wine tasting and magazine subscriptions.
Mr Williamson said while he pretended he was "dragged" along to the expo, he was a little curious and was pleased he went.
Food, beer tasting, pole dancing and heavy traffic licensing stalls were welcome relief, he said.
"I'm surprised at how much stuff there is here for guys.
"The great thing is, there are also a lot of Christmas present ideas for partners and mums."
The southern bloke certainly seemed happy to wander the stalls with iced-tea sample in hand, and Miss Hollamby was impressed with his patience.
"He wins lots of brownie points for coming down here with me today."
Peacock Promotions Ltd managing director Rob Woodhouse was delighted with the turnout at the annual exhibition at the Edgar Centre in Dunedin.
He estimated more than 8000 people visited on Saturday and yesterday.
