Winz office shift works

Moving some of its services from South Dunedin to Central Dunedin has worked for both Work and Income and its clients, southern regional director Sue Rissman says.

From early August, work services for those on the unemployment, unemployment training and independent youth benefits made the move to allow a team of specialist case managers to provide a centralised point of contact for job seekers.

It was hoped the change would allow the organisation to reduce duplication of services, eliminate transfers between the centres, better manage resources and have a greater ability to adapt services to client needs.

"We were not doing it to try to make things difficult for clients, but we thought they would get a better service," Mrs Rissman said.

No complaints had been received, and the part-time work broker based in South Dunedin was working "sufficient" hours to meet demand.

More people were also attending workshops and seminars, and, anecdotally, more people were finding work, she said.
