Dunedin couple Shirley and Ken Buswell returned home last night $150,000 richer after Mrs Buswell spun the winning wheel during Saturday night's live draw.

The couple, who run a building consultancy and have two children and five grandchildren, said last night they planned to spend the money on doing up their Balmacewen house, paying off some of their mortgage and upgrading Mr Buswell's motorcycle. They had already bought season passes to rugby games at the Forsyth Barr Stadium.

"We looked into getting season tickets ... but they were a bit pricey. But when we found out we had the winning wheel ticket, we knew we were guaranteed [at least] $100,000, so we splashed out," Mrs Buswell said.

They described their weekend away, which included a stay at a luxury hotel in Wellington and a new outfit for Mrs Buswell, as "an amazing experience".

Mr Buswell said they had never won anything big before.

"A few golf-club raffles, but nothing bigger than that."
