This next week is looking to be very settled, with a small southwesterly change at the end.

There will be a range of wind direction with a tendency toward the northeast.

The next couple of days should stay rather chilly with highs of merely 12degC with a few stints at 14degC. The lows will be between 5degC and 8degC.

After the weekend the wind shifts slightly with highs possibly hitting 20degC or 22degC.

This is short lived though as by later in the week a southwesterly flow will hit with balmy temperatures of 15degC (at least by southerly standards.)

All in all the weather should be settled with gentle to moderate breezes with fresh breeze conditions possible (taken from the Beaufort scale)

Now the forecast is out of the way I have a very special guest... Can I have a round of applause for... Last week!

A week ago today we had the only eventful day (weather wise) of the past week.

That thing was a couple thunderstorm, caused by a southerly racing up the coast and veering inland close to Dunedin.

This front then decided "actually no" "I'm going to go inland, do a little bit of a dance, a waltz, a tango whatever that forecaster boy wants to call it. With this hot northwesterly".

So he did and the meeting of hot and cold air let off a bit of steam and a bit of friction and that steam friction and moisture organized itself into tall cumulonimbus clouds about 15 km high.

Once they were organised they climbed over Maungatua and slid down onto the Taieri Plains.

By then most of the lightning had either gone or never really existed and we just saw thunder, 5mm hail and torrential rain.

The last part brings me to the guts of Friday, the rain.

There was torrential rain and hail first up and then a couple hours later, once they had finished their dancing and were just sitting together, tired from a long day the spawned another heavy downpour, this time without a charge.

The rest of the week was rather warm but normal for September.

Now that it's almost time for me to leave, I would like to introduce my awards presented by... my alter-ego, Weathergirl!

I would like to give this first award to my boy Wednesday who, at 2.33pm during his time on stage reached a hot 25.6degC! My second award is to Wednesday's brother, MAKE SOME NOISE FOR... Thursday with a low of 2.1degC about 6 hours and 53 minutes into his time on stage.

Also, Hi, I'm Ben from WeatherByATwelve... wait Thirteen year old (ugh, I always get that wrong).
