There were three kinds of sliders - the uncertain, confident and downright scared.
Some needed coaching from parents who ran alongside; some just went for it.
But for most, hitting the waterslide, the last event in the Sport Otago Stride, Ride and Slide event at Logan Park yesterday, brought a smile to their faces, even if it was just for getting across it without falling over.
Kacey Clark, of Palmerston, was no exception.
Five-year-olds were keen to head off on the run and Jackson Hitchens cycled hard in his event.
The run was 50m and the trike or bike segment was 150m. Sport Otago marketing co-ordinator Amanda Dyer said nearly 300 children aged 2 to 6 took part.
The good weather made all the difference, especially for those who kept lining up for the waterslide, kept slippery by the Fire Service and baby soap, between races, she said.
