Information about water reserves throughout the Taieri is proving invaluable for the area's firefighters.
Outram's chief fire officer, John Eaton, said 15 people had called him in the past week with details about water on their rural properties that could be used by firefighters in emergencies.
''That covers most of the area, so the response has been really good,'' he said.
Taieri residents were urged in last week's Taieri Times to contact Mr Eaton so he could compile a list of water resources for the brigade's use.
He said the first person to respond was a Huntley Rd resident who called about his water reserves one morning and had a fire emergency the same day.
''About an hour and a-half after he rang, we were called to a tractor on fire at his place,'' Mr Eaton said.
Mr Eaton would welcome any more information about Taieri water stores. Phone him on 027 434-2198.
