Water rescue off Waikouaiti

Two young people have escaped uninjured after the jet ski they were riding got into trouble off the coast of Waikouaiti.

Senior Sergeant Craig Brown, of Dunedin, said an adult was in the water and kept the jet ski from becoming stranded on rocks before it was towed to the shore by an inflatable.

"We managed to get hold of an IRB and are currently towing them into shore,'' Snr Sgt Brown said.

Police were alerted to the incident about 1.45pm.
