The next stage of the multimillion-dollar upgrade of Dunedin’s warehouse precinct will get under way before the end of the year.
Tenders for work on the Vogel St abutment area are being sought by the Dunedin City Council and construction will start in October.
Council transport group manager Richard Saunders said there had been some minor changes made to the design for the abutment area, designed to improve pedestrian safety.
Abutment square, as it is is being called, is the area off Vogel St that used to be one end of a bridge over the railway lines.
Upgrades in the Bond St area would now start next year.
A tender for the water infrastructure upgrades in Bond St would be sent out later this year and tenders for streetscape work called for in 2019, Mr Saunders said.
It will also provide a shared space for pedestrians, cars and bicycles in the Bond and Water St area, near the Exchange.
The water infrastructure work was expected to start early next year and take about six months.
Streetscaping work would start sometime next year, Mr Saunders said.
There had been a delay in the project due to the detailed design process and the addition of water infrastructure upgrades as part of the project.
Detailed designs were still being finalised for the Bond St work.
There had been no change to the $1.2 million budget for the projects.
