More than 100 supporters walk along John Wilson Ocean Dr yesterday  morning as part of the annual Walk 2 D’Feet, which raises awareness of motor neurone disease.

The 4km walk from the Pirates Rugby Football Club was part of a national fundraiser to support the Motor Neurone Disease Association of New Zealand’s services and research.

Co-organiser Abi Charters, whose father died after developing MND, said the disease was still not widely understood by the general public and part of the reason for the walk was to educate and inform people.

"It’s a huge fundraising, because the Government only provide about 8% of the funding research, so for us it’s about supporting that research and also supporting those people who are suffering from MND."
