A 23-year-old man has been charged with careless use of a firearm after a man was shot with an air pistol in Waikouati, police say.
The victim was mowing the lawns at a nearby property when he was struck in the abdomen about 2pm yesterday, Senior Sergeant James Ure, of Dunedin, said.
Police are continuing their inquiry into the incident, which saw officers from Palmerston, Oamaru and Dunedin called out.
Sgt Ure said police took the incident seriously, as air guns could be potentially dangerous weapons.
