A voice for human rights in Iran

It has been 44 years since the revolution that ousted the last Shah of Iran and brought in the Islamic regime to Iran, so Dunedin Iranians staged a protest on the lawn of the Otago Museum to highlight the abuse of women and human rights in Iran today.

Iranian University of Otago zoology PhD student Mitra Darestani stood with the group outside the museum on Saturday, marking February 11, the anniversary of the end of the Islamic revolution.

Ms Darestani said the protesters were wearing eye patches to symbolise the people who had lost their eyes to gunshot wounds during the present unrest.
