Three lpg bottles bobbing in the Water of Leith resulted in fire crews armed with a large pole being called to the University of Otago yesterday afternoon.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Ian Littlejohn said crews were called at 1.45pm to deal with the bottles trapped by the current in the river near the clocktower building.

Witnesses reported Fenz staff were eventually able to work the 9kg bottles loose. The bottles raced about 200m downstream before being recovered by a firefighter.
