The University of Otago is among the top 20 employers in New Zealand, according to an annual survey ranking the best places to work.
Otago University was ranked the 13th best place to work by global recruitment agency Randstad, at a recent event.
The university was second in the education category. Massey University (11th overall) was the only educational institution ranked higher.
University director of human resources Kevin Seales said the university was pleased to be recognised as an ''employer of choice''.
''At the University of Otago we strive to provide an environment where people can have fulfilling and successful careers. ''An area of focus for the university is supporting staff with families, for example, in paid parental leave conditions,'' Mr Seales said.
This focus on families was also apparent in its investment in a child-care facility soon to be opened on campus, he said.
TVNZ was the overall New Zealand winner in the survey, which took into account factors including job security, workplace culture and work-life balance.
