A teenager has been linked to two thefts at a North Rd bar, which have left the business almost $3000 out of pocket.
Simon’s Bistro and Beergarden manager Darcee Gosling is fuming after a keg and its coupler were stolen from a chiller at the rear of the property on Sunday night.
It was the second burglary in as many weeks after about $2000 worth of alcohol was stolen on May 21.
On both occasions, the alcohol was locked in the chiller.
It was broken into and the alcohol taken.
Crates of beer, RTDs and spirits were stolen in the first burglary.
Police confirmed a 16-year-old was arrested about 2.30pm yesterday in relation to both burglaries. Police could not confirm the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
The Dunedin teenager was charged with two counts of burglary and would appear in the Dunedin Youth Court this morning.
Mr Gosling said he was pleased the youth was arrested, but the burglaries had stung.
‘‘It definitely hurts a small business, especially when you are starting out,’’ he said.
He moved to Dunedin from Christchurch last year and had run the bar since February.
The burglaries had left him shaken.
‘‘I can’t afford another one.’’
He planned to install further security measures.
