The Otago Youth Adventure Trust is waiting for an engineer's report before deciding whether it is safe to rebuild the dormitories and sauna at Berwick Lodge destroyed by a landslip in May.
Six rooms in the main accommodation block were pushed off their foundations and crushed after torrential rain brought down a wall of clay from the hill behind the camp, about 45km southwest of Dunedin.
The trust's intention was to rebuild next year, but it was waiting for the "all clear" from engineers on the stability of the hillside, president Brian Pickard said yesterday.
The debris was cleared within a week of the landslip and the lodge reopened.
The maximum bed capacity was now 55, about 20 fewer than before, he said.
"We are able to accommodate a lot of our regular clients, but it hasn't been possible to accommodate the larger groups."
The lodge was insured, but Mr Pickard said the cost of the rebuild was likely to be more than the insurance payout and fundraising would be needed.
Some service clubs had already given the trust money, he said.
"Rotary gave us some of the money from their daffodil sales recently, which was an unexpected surprise."
