More than 280 riders thundered down George St to the Octagon on Saturday, loaded with toys for families who might not be able to afford them this Christmas.
The event, now in its 26th year, is organised by motorcycle club Bronz Otago and the Dunedin North Lions Club which, with other agencies, will distribute the toys to families in need.
Bronz Otago president Ron McKay said the turnout this year was "probably one of the bigger ones" he had seen.
He attributed the weather and the fact motorcyclists were in the mood for gathering at the moment, a reference to recent agitation against changes to ACC levies that target motorcyclists.
The run left Careys Bay and travelled to the Octagon.
Dunedin North Lions Club toy-drop organiser Pauline Moffat said riders donated more than 400 toys last year and she expected it would be about the same number this year, given the turnout.
"I get to see the looks on these kids' faces when they get the toys, and they just love it."
It was particularly special this year, as times were tough for a lot of people, not only those receiving the toys, but probably also for some who had given them, she said.
