Toitu visits top 307,000

The Toitu Otago Settlers Museum has attracted more than 307,000 visitors since it reopened its doors late last year after its redevelopment. Museum officials earlier said there had been 301,084 visitors until the end of October, a period of 11 months since the reopening.

Overall attendance subsequently exceeded 307,000 last week.

''It is really great to see both local people and visitors to Dunedin enjoying the new museum,'' acting director Jennifer Evans said.

Before its $37.5 million redevelopment, the museum received about 65,000 visits a year.

Attendance graphs tabled at a recent museum board meeting, showed that even during the winter months, more than six times as many visitors had been arriving than in 2009, immediately before the redevelopment.
