Teens sought after cellphone theft

Mosgiel police are asking for help to find two teenagers accused of chasing a 15-year-old boy on Thursday night and robbing him of his cellphone.

The complainant, who lives in Mosgiel, did not recognise the teenagers as being from the town, Senior Constable Dave Leonard, of Mosgiel, said yesterday.

One of the alleged offenders was described as wearing jeans and a grey top and having distinctive blond curly hair in an "afro style".

The other alleged offender had brown hair and was wearing a green and white striped top.

Both were thought to be about 16 years old.

"Someone will recognise the clothing and hairstyles, especially their parents," Snr Const Leonard said.

The complainant said he was approached by the pair in the Hartstonge Ave park about 10pm, told to hand over his cellphone and threatened with a stick.

The boy ran to a nearby house on Reid Ave and knocked on the door, but no-one answered.

The blond-haired teenager followed him to the house and robbed him of his cellphone.

Snr Const Leonard said the complainant fell during the altercation, hurting his leg.

While there had been one or two incidents involving teenagers at the park, he said this incident was "more than minor".

"When a boy is chased and his cellphone is stolen, that is reasonably serious."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mosgiel police station.
