It looked ominous - against a backdrop of dark clouds, hundreds of leather-clad motorcycle riders rumbled into central Dunedin on Saturday. But onlookers need not have worried; the bikes were on a charity toy run.

Dunedin North Lions Club toy-drop organiser Pauline Moffat said the more than 300 riders in the annual BRONZ Otago Toy Run filled a large trailer and a four-wheel-drive with donated toys.

"The toys will be distributed throughout the community to organisations like Plunket, church groups, CYF, or even families which are having a hard time, just wherever they are needed, really."

The event, now in its 25th year, was organised by motorcycle club Bronz Otago and was growing in popularity, president Ron McKay, of Dunedin, said.

"It has been increasing steadily as more people get into bikes, but this is a step up," Mr McKay said.

Dunedin man Allan Miller, son Dylan and father Glen all rode in Saturday's event. It was the fourth time the family group had attended the toy run and donated gifts.

BRONZ Otago is a motorcycle group with about 200 members which caters for all types of motorcycles and motorcyclists. It has a strong focus on social events and rider advocacy, and provides rider training.
