St Clair residents continue to be targeted by thieves.
Three thefts from vehicles in the Dunedin suburb on Tuesday night were reported.
Senior Sergeant Kelvin Lloyd said it was an ongoing problem and people had continuously been warned by police not to leave valuables in vehicles.
He said a wallet, bag and GPS system were reported stolen from vehicles in the latest incidents in Sea View Tce and Motu St.
The cars were unlocked and parked off the street up driveways or elsewhere on private property, he said.
''Some people don't want to lock their cars so they won't be damaged by thieves trying to get in. But if you leave your valuables in cars, they will be taken.''
Police did not encourage people to leave their vehicles unlocked.
Snr Sgt Lloyd said the main message from police was to remove all valuables from vehicles.
''There's a number of prevention strategies we've got and we are noticing patterns in different areas. ... the easiest prevention is for property owners to remove commodities from vehicles - if they're not there, they can't be taken,'' he said.
