The items, which were given to community and sports groups, were of "no heritage or monetary value'', Ministry of Justice commercial and property general manager Fraser Gibbs said.
The court is being strengthened and refurbished. Mr Gibbs said heritage items were either removed to be returned later, or protected to ensure they were not damaged.
"However, surplus office furniture of no heritage or monetary value such as old office chairs, desks, tables and filing cabinets are being offered to community and sporting groups for their use.''
Some groups were approached by the ministry, while others came to the ministry seeking surplus furniture.
The ministry aims to announce its main contractor for the courthouse project in October, and completion of the work is expected in early 2018.
