Competitors braved a range heights in their bids to create the biggest splash at the inaugural Big Bomb competition at Moana Pool in Dunedin yesterday.

About 40, mostly children, took part in the school-holiday event, a joint endeavour between Moana Pool and Channel 9.

Competitors were judged by a panel of Highlanders and Steel players on the biggest, loudest, highest bomb, smallest splash and crowd favourite.

Channel 9 sales manager Geoff Bell said it really captured children's imaginations and challenged them to give it a go.

Footage from the Big Bomb would be shown on the first episode of ‘‘Kids World'', a Dunedin-based children's television programme, being launched on September 1, he said.
