Students urged to keep flats secure

Students living in North Dunedin are again being reminded to keep their flats secure, following more burglaries in the area.

Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield said a handbag was taken from a unlocked student flat in Ethel Benjiman Pl between 2pm and 3.30pm on Tuesday.

The doors and windows of the flat were unlocked.

The break-in was one

of nine reported burglaries of flats last week in Castle, Dundas, Leith, and Grange Sts and Anzac Ave.

Otago University Students Association student support manager Sage Burke said all students were encouraged to follow the advice of the police and secure their flats.

Campus Watch was also able to visit flats and offer security advice which was provided through the proctor's office, he said.
