The two-day festival involves more than 60 performances from 2000 pupils.

Special guests at the festival include three New Zealand hip-hop artists - Feelstyle, King Kapisi and Teremoana Rapley.

Organising committee chairman Whetu Cormick said the festival got better every year.

"When the festival started 16 years ago, it was just five performances in the afternoon."

The festival will continue today, from 9am.
