Mr Crowe's was one of about a dozen homes affected after a water main burst in Ayr St early on Saturday and flooded nearby Forfar St.
"All the water was down the other side of the street when I first got up, but then it came down this way too ... the drains just couldn't take it."
Affected residents had to don their gumboots to leave their homes.
The water supply for Ayr, Mure and Forfar Sts was shut off soon after the council was notified, about 8.10am.
It was restored about 1pm after the pipe had been repaired.
Investigations had begun into how and why the 200mm plastic water main burst.
It was not normal for a pipe like this to burst in such a way, he said.
