It is a busy and exciting time here at Taieri College as we near the end of term 3.

Our year 7 and 8 pupils have had a lot of fun recently in a number of events.

First, 100 year 7 and 8 pupils participated in the Stars on Stage event with their dance and acrobatic event. Pupils started rehearsals at the start of term 2 and have been perfecting their routine every lunchtime since, a huge commitment.

The biennial event at the Regent Theatre left pupils buzzing, with all the hard work paying off as they celebrated dancing and the arts. The event gave pupils the confidence to perform on stage as they look to compete in Stage Challenge in future years.

We held the annual year 7 and 8 interchange with Kavanagh College under largely sunny skies with 13 games contested over five different sports. The exchange was locked at 5-5 going into the last three events, which made for an exciting finish.

Kavanagh deservedly came out as winners for the first time in the event's 12-year history.

We locked horns competitively and honestly in netball, rugby, football, miniball and hockey. It was sad to see the trophy leave Taieri College but it does remove any complacency about working hard to win the exchange next year.

The college also held the year 7 and 8 cross-country recently, where all pupils ran a 2.5km course including Memorial Park and the Silverstream. A standout performer was young Trey Russell of Red House, who as a year 7 pupil had the fastest time across both year levels.

In the senior school, we were lucky enough to attend the ''Future Directions Experience'' in Hislop Hall. The purpose of the evening was to provide the opportunity for pupils to gather ideas and information so they can plan an effective career after our school life.

We were fortunate enough that 20 providers were available to speak directly with pupils and parents and we would like to thank them for giving up their time to come to the experience and provide pupils with valuable advice regarding their careers.

We also wish the best of luck to all the senior pupils who have been faithfully and diligently revising their subjects in preparation of the school examinations.

Pupils are setting their goals high at the college and are willing to explore new ideas and challenges, while the school is supporting them in their development.
