Taieri College hosted its primary schools seven-a-side day yesterday, more than 250 primary school pupils taking part in the five adapted sports in fine weather.
Taieri College acting principal Paul Bolton said that the annual fixture, which is in its fourth year, was expanding every year, and there were now six schools involved.
The sports day was beneficial for all schools that took part, including Taieri College which had year 10 to 13 pupils coaching year 6 participants during school lunch hours, Mr Bolton said.
The college's pupils had gained leadership skills during the past four weeks, he said. The tournament had also introduced the primary pupils to Taieri College, he said.
The primary schools involved were St Mary's, Silverstream Primary, Outram, East Taieri Primary, Elmgrove Primary and Strath Taieri.
Many Taieri College pupils who had been involved in the competition in previous years as primary pupils were now coaching year 6 pupils from their former schools, Mr Bolton said.
The five sports, were rugby, uni hockey, football, netball and miniball.
