International concert organist Hans Hielscher returns to Dunedin today, with a programme entitled From Gospel Songs to Overtures.

The performance, to be held from 3pm Sunday 12 March at Dunedin Town Hall, promises ‘‘a dazzling sound journey through the world of Romantic organ music’’.

Hielscher will perform a wide variety of music , including pieces by lesser-known composers, concluding with von Suppe’s Poet and Peasant overture.

Based in Wiesbaden, Germany, Hielscher is organist of the Marktkirche, and given more than 3500 recitals around the world over the years.

‘‘Norma’’, the Dunedin Town Hall organ, is one of his favourite instruments. He has performed here several times and recorded a CD entitled Dancing Pipes on the city’s historic musical treasure.
