A trip to Gallipoli will be at stake when St Hilda's Collegiate pupil Lola Garden competes in the ANZ RSA Cyril Bassett Speech Competition in Wellington today.
The 17-year-old earned a place in the national final by winning the Otago-Southland regional final in Balclutha on March 13.
The subject for the competition is New Zealanders in World War 1, which embraces Kiwis who served or were involved in the war.
Eight regional finalists will contest today's final, each receiving a $1000 prize, $1000 for their school and a commemorative plaque or certificate.
The overall winner will travel to Gallipoli for this year's Anzac Day commemorations and will receive a smartphone, laptop and winner's trophy.
