A pitch invasion, a lone male streaker and an aggressive Southland supporter did not mar the rugby match against Otago at Forsyth Barr Stadium on Saturday, the stadium operators say.
Dunedin Venues Management Ltd operations manager Coryn Huddy said between 50 and 100 Southland supporters invaded the pitch after Southland won.
''They were pretty happy about the win and wanted to venture out and congratulate the players,'' Mr Huddy said.
The ''stadium protocol'' did not allow the public to walk on the grass inside the stadium,''But they were pretty chirpy that their team had won and wanted to get down a bit closer and jumped the fence and trotted their way out,'' he said.
Security staff had to get the spectators away from the players to ensure the presentations and broadcast went ahead as planned ''with as little nuisance from the public'' as possible.
At the end of the game, the police staff who usually positioned themselves at the external gates were called to come right into the stadium ''to make sure we had a presence around the edge of the presentations''.
Earlier, two Southland supporters were escorted from the stadium by police, the streaker, and another man, who was ''detained for showing a bit of aggression''.
Overall, the event had been a success, Mr Huddy said.
Sergeant Ben Butterfield, of Dunedin, said a 22-year-old Southland man was given a formal warning for a minor assault at the stadium.
