A Mosgiel mother driving with her two young children in the car, was arrested at a traffic stop after breaching her bail conditions by allegedly driving drunk.
Sergeant Matt Lee, of Dunedin, said police were conducting an alcohol checkpoint on Saturday in Haggart-Alexander Dr, Mosgiel, when a woman with two young children in the backseat underwent breath testing procedures and recorded a breath alcohol level of 883mcg — three and a-half times the limit.
The woman — on bail and with a condition that she not operate a vehicle — was arrested for breaching bail.
She will appear in Dunedin District Court at a later date.
At 11.10pm in Riselaw Rd, Calton Hill, police stopped a 34-year-old man.
When officers approached the vehicle, they noticed the smell of cannabis, which resulted in a warrantless search being invoked.
Sgt Lee said the man attempted to drive off, but was removed from the vehicle and detained.
The search resulted in methamphetamine, cannabis, ritalin pills and offensive weapons being found in the vehicle.
The man underwent a compulsory impairment test — which he failed — and a blood sample was obtained, Sgt Lee said.
He was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of methamphetamine, breach of the Medicines Act and possession of a knife in a public place.
He was bailed and will appear in Dunedin District Court at a later date.
