South Dunedin ram raid fails

A pint-sized vehicle was used in an unsuccessful ram raid of a Dunedin shop - the second such attempt in the city this week.

The DTR store on King Edward St was targeted on Wednesday night, but police have stopped short of saying it was linked to the earlier failed raid of a petrol station.

A Suzuki Alto, stolen from Hillside Rd, was used in the attempted ram raid at the store's rear entrance on Glasgow St, Sergeant Steve Aitken said.

The thieves were unable to gain access, he said.

Forensics were being carried out on the car, and he confirmed there was no CCTV of the ram raid.

On Monday morning a Toyota Hilux was driven into the door of the Caltex Valley petrol station, as the thieves failed to make off with an ATM.
