Construction of the South Dunedin library and community centre in King Edward St is expected to start early next year.

The two-storey facility could open in mid-2025.

In August, the Dunedin City Council announced a partnership with Positive Property Ltd relating to the site of the old Wolfenden and Russell building.

Positive Property is to construct the shell of the new building and then the city council will buy it and complete the fit-out.

"We’re expecting to break ground in early 2024 and, all going well, we’ll be opening the new facility in mid-2025," a council spokesman said.
