Owner Marty van Rooyen (53) said he and his wife Vicki bought the business 15 years ago and ran it from Auckland.
Then, eight years ago, the couple made a ''left-field decision'' and moved to Mosgiel for a lifestyle change.
''I feel we made the right decision because it's all about the quality of life - not the quantity of life - and the total package on offer in Mosgiel is very, very high.''
In Auckland he spent several hours a week commuting, but in Mosgiel he could get from home to work in seven minutes.
In Mosgiel, lifestyle block ownership was possible.
And the education on offer in Otago for their six children was of a higher quality than that available to them in Auckland.
''We don't have any regrets.''
For a small niche exporter, it made no difference where the company was located.
''Whether you're in Auckland talking to someone in Dubai, or in Mosgiel talking to someone in Dubai, it makes no difference to them. They don't care where you're based.''
More than 80% of the company's products were sold to international buyers, he said.
''At the moment we have jobs on the go for Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom.''
The company's range of about 15 products were all high-end, he said.
''Our products are way beyond the reach or comprehension of the average punter . . . we are looking at selling to the discerning - people who want bespoke, one-off creations.''
