Changes will affect the timing of variable speed limits, which are intended to drop to 30kmh when pupils are being picked up and dropped off.
However, not all schools have the same start and finish times and this led to some curious sign deployment.
In the case of a zone around Columba College, the 30kmh limit stopped applying from 3.15pm, which was exactly when classes finished for the day.
The zone covers both Columba College and nearby Kaikorai Primary School in Highgate.
The primary school finishes at 3pm.
The issue would be resolved by extending the temporary reduced speed limit for the zone to 3.30pm, a Dunedin City Council spokesman said.
Updated signs would advise of the lower limit beginning 15 minutes before the first school opened and, at the end of the day, finishing 15 minutes after the last school closed.
The council looked into several school zones.
One affected by coming changes is a zone covering Otago Boys’ and Otago Girls’ High Schools, Trinity Catholic College, St Joseph’s Cathedral School and Arthur Street Primary School.
The others are King’s and Queen’s High Schools and Bathgate Primary School; Bayfield High School and St Brigid’s School; and Kaikorai Valley College and Balaclava School.
The council expects updated signs to be in put in place in the coming weeks.
